CENTER FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF RIGID ENDOSCOPY
Welcome to C.A.R.E.
The Center for the Advancement of Rigid Endoscopy introduces veterinarians to techniques necessary for incorporating rigid endoscopy into their everyday practice. The procedures are less painful and provide increased safety with better visualization. Procedures are practical, easy to learn, and profitable, allowing veterinarians to utilize them right away in practice.
All teaching surgeries are performed with live animals (who are then adopted into homes). Labs are taught using 1 instructor per one or two attendees, allowing for in-depth personal teaching.

Agenda & Sessions
Advances in equipment and newer techniques in rigid endoscopy allow practitioners to provide affordable and practical laparoscopic care for their patients. Owners are accustomed to the decreased pain and recovery times associated with rigid endoscopy performed on themselves, and many times are requesting the same level of care for their pets. In order to help private practitioners provide these minimally invasive surgeries, the Center for the Advancement of Rigid Endoscopy has designed an intensive two day wet lab course.
This One-day rigid endoscopy course demonstrates the varied applications of laparoscopy, in addition, each practitioner will participate in at least two single-port ovariohysterectomies, as well as performing a laparoscopic assisted gastropexy. Dogs are then returned to the animal shelter, or rescue group, and placed for adoption.
The science of rigid endoscopy, the economics, and the profitability of incorporating rigid endoscopy into private practice will be discussed by our doctors who employ these techniques daily in their own practices.

Reception and Q&A
Ovariohysterectomies/ovariectomies will be performed on rescue dogs who will then be returned to the rescue centerfor adoption. Other procedures such as cryptorchidectomy, gastropexies, liver biopsies, and cystotomies may be performed, based on the needs of each patient. Each student will also participate in a lap-assisted gastropexy.

DR. RAY
COXDr. Ray Cox graduated from Colorado State University in 1979. Ray then co-founded a veterinary hospital currently employs 12 full time veterinarians. Ray began doing laparoscopy approximately twenty years ago when rigid endoscopy was in its infancy. In the past four years he has been involved in a published pain study, "JAVMA 2003," co-developed several single port laparoscopic techniques, and taught laparo-scopy at universities around the country.

DR. MARKEE
KUSCHELDr. Markee Kuschel graduated from Colorado State University in 1990. Markee has been medical director as well as a partner at Deer Creek Animal Hospital. She has been integral in the development of laparoscopic assisted single port ovario-hysterectomy, single port gastropexy and single port crypt-orchid neuter surgical techniques. She travels widely in the United States and Canada, training veterinarians in private practices and universities to perform these surgeries. She is enthusiastic about the reduction in both pain and invasiveness provided by the single port technique. She and Dr. Cox utilize the laparoscopic approach in a significant proportion of eligible patients at their 11-doctor practice in suburban Denver.

DR. JIM
HAILEYDr. Jim Hailey graduated from Colorado State University in 1969. Jim then went on to build up several veterinary practices. Four years ago, Jim became involved in rigid endoscopy. Recognizing that this part of veterinary medicine would evolve into an integral part of private practice, he took part in testing product modifications. Dr. Hailey was involved in the development of many of the single-port procedures used at this time. Dr. Hailey has traveled throughout North America teaching laparoscopic surgery in private practices and in universities.
Similar to the evolution of human surgery, minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy) is the way of the future for pets because it provides a safer surgery as well as a truly diminished level of pain suffered by the animals. Many procedures can be performed through a dime-size incision and the organs viewed via a state of-the-art camera system. These procedures include liver and other organ Biopsies, Gastropexies, removal of retained testicles, bladder stone removal and many other procedures. Blood vessels can be visualized before and during cauterization, minimizing the risks of hemorrhage.
